History

In 1940, at the age of 4, Martin Selig moved with his family to Seattle from Germany. In 1958, he purchased his first Seattle property – a warehouse in the University District – and by 1962 he was building, buying and selling shopping centers. Mr. Selig’s interest turned to office buildings, and in 1966 he bought and remodeled a small building in the lower Queen Anne neighborhood. Since then, he has developed more than 25 other significant office buildings ranging in size from 60,000 square feet to the 1.5-million-square-foot Bank of America Tower (Columbia Center). In 2002, Mr. Selig’s daughter, Lauren, joined her father’s business. Today, Martin Selig Real Estate owns a portfolio of about 2.5 million square feet in Seattle, and is in the process of developing five new signature properties for commercial and residential use.
